Get Ready for a Shakespearean Summer Storm in Thornden Park's AmphitheatreThe 7th Annual Shakespeare-in-the-Park show this year, the supernatural comedy, The Tempest, is one of the last plays The Bard wrote. Combining elements of natural and supernatural powers, comedy and tragedy and romance and fantasy, this FREE show will blow you away in a storm of fun. Bring the whole family! There's Going to Be a Comedy of Errors in Thornden Park's AmphitheatreRevolving around continuous scenes of mistaken identity, two sets of twins, one of each pair in Syracuse (!) and Ephesus, Greece, show us the heights and depths of lowball, madcap comedy in Shakespeare's tour de deuce, The Comedy of Errors. Join in the fun as the Syracuse Shakespeare Festival presents the 6th annual edition of the FREE, Shakespeare-in-the-Park program. Bring your picnics and your lawn chairs. THE COMEDY OF ERRORS

Synopsis by SceneAct One, Scene 1: The Duke of Ephesus gives a merchant from Syracuse named Egeon till five o'clock to raise a large sum of money, or he will die.Act One, Scene 2: Antipholus of Syracuse arrives in Ephesus in search of his indentical twin, also called Antipholus. With him is his trusty servant Dromio, who also has an identical twin named Dromio. Antipholus meets the wrong Dromio, and the errors begin. Act Two, Scene 1: Adriana, the wife of Antipholus of Ephesus, is enraged when Dromio of Ephesus comes home and tells her how his master said he had no wife. Act Two, Scene 2: No sooner has Antipholus of Syracuse found the right Dromio when Adriana and her sister find both of them and persuade them to come in for dinner. Act Three, Scene 1: Antipholus of Ephesus arrives at his home. His wife, thinking that he is already with her, has locked him out; so he decides to dine with the Courtesan. Act Three, Scene 2: Antipholus of Syracuse proposes marriage to Adriana's sister, with predictable results. He decides to leave Ephesus as soon as possible. On the street, Angelo hands him a chain that Antipholus of Ephesus had ordered for the Courtesan. INTERMISSIONAct Four, Scene 1: Angelo runs into Antipholus of Ephesus and asks for his money. The two get into a dispute, and Antipholus is arrested. Dromio of Syracuse arrives and is told to get bail from Adriana.Act Four, Scene 2: Dromio of Syracuse gets bail from Adriana. Act Four, Scene 3: Dromio of Syracuse gives the bail to the wrong Antipholus. The Courtesan arrives and asks for the chain that Antipholus of Ephesus had promised her; the two men run away from her in terror. Act Four, Scene 4: Dromio of Ephesus runs into Antipholus of Ephesus, who of course doesn't have his bail. Soon Adriana and company arrive; no sooner have they sent one set of twins away to a dark house, than the other set of twins arrives and scares them out of their wits. Act Five, Scene 1: The Syracusan twins run into an abbey for sanctuary. Adriana and company are barred from entering. The Duke and Egeon arrive, then the Ephesian twins. Once everybody is in the same place, all of the errors are explained, and everybody lives happily ever after. |
